Creating and managing Group Policy

Group Policy is a mechanism for controlling and deploying operating system settings to computers all over your network. Group Policy consists of user and computer settings for the various Microsoft Windows operating systems, which the systems implement during computer startup and shutdown and user logon and logoff. You can configure one or more Group Policy Objects (GPOs) and then use a process called linking to associate them with specific Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) objects. When you link a GPO to a container object, all the objects in that container receive the settings you configured in the GPO. You can link
multiple GPOs to a single AD DS container or link one GPO to multiple containers throughout the AD DS hierarchy.
This section covers some of the fundamental tasks that administrators perform to create and deploy Group Policy settings.
